Ogden-based Staker & Parson Companies is returning to a portion of its roots by acquiring the Fife Rock Products Co. in Brigham City and Ogden.

In 1946, Douglas J. Fife and Jack B. Parson formed the Parson and Fife Construction Co. to provide construction services to northern Utah. The partnership remained intact until 1955, when Fife branched out and created Fife Rock Products in Brigham City.

"My grandfather would be pleased to know these fine businesses have been re-united after all these years," said John Parson, CEO of Staker & Parson Companies.

Staker and Parson Companies was formed in 2001 when Staker Paving and Construction Co. and the Jack B. Parson companies became partners.

With the addition of Fife Rock Products, Staker and Parson becomes one of the largest producers of rock products, ready mix concrete and asphalt in the Intermountain region. Fife Rock Products specializes in providing construction services, asphalt paving and ready mixed concrete, while Staker and Parson is an aggregate, gravel and road-paving construction company.

"The addition of Fife's assets with Staker & Parson Companies expands our ability to serve our ready mix and asphalt customers while continuing to provide quality sand & gravel to the Northern Utah market," said Parson.

The acquisition was initiated by Fife officials and the deal will close on April 25 for an undisclosed amount. Fife employs about 70 people during the peak summer months. They are expected to continue under the new partnership. Staker and Parson is planning to take over Fife's gravel pit in Brigham City
but is anticipating closing its Ogden office.
