Prominent Leader in Construction Industry Awarded Honorary Degree

Ogden, Utah -- 24 June 2004 -- Weber State University awarded an honorary degree to Jack B. Parson, Jr, a prominent leader in the construction industry, at the university's 123rd commencement. Other recipients included a nationally recognized voice for the Palestinian people and advocate for peace in the Middle East, a former faculty member, and a longtime WSU employee.

Mr. Parson is chairman for Staker & Parson Companies, the largest construction materials supply and service company in the Intermountain West.

"Mr. Parson joins a group of honorary degree recipients whose impressive achievements, although varied, have one quality in common: they all have touched countless lives in positive and inspiring ways," said Vicki Gorrell, Vice President for University Relations at Weber State University. "Mr. Parson and his family have supported the university generously with their time and their resources. Their gift for the Parson Construction Management Technology Program benefits not only students but also the construction industry as a whole."

Mr. Parson has served on the Utah Contractors Licensing Board and Zion's Bank Northern Utah Advisory Board. He has been a director, national director, national executive committee member and Utah chapter president of the Utah Associated General Contractors of America. In 1999, he received the Eric W. Ryberg Award, the Utah chapter's highest honor. Mr. Parson currently resides in Pleasant View, Utah, with his wife DeAnne. The couple has four children and sixteen grandchildren.
